Definitely no way any other song topped this one in 2011.

In my greatest of all time, for sure.

pitchfork:

M83’s “Midnight City”, #1 on our Top 100 Tracks of 2011.

Gary Clark Jr. - Don’t Owe You A Thing (by CrossroadsGuitar)

In today’s Where the F*ck Have I Been?

The Artist: Theophilus London. The track: Why Even Try?

Sexy, dancy, pseudo retro. Sorta rock, sorta hip hop, sorta R&B.

Not bad on the eyes, either.

Black Keys - Howlin’ For You (Prins Thomas Diskomiks) [Nonesuch]

This song couldn’t really get much hotter.

Except for right now.

New find of the week: Graffiti6.

File under: you’ve got to be kidding me.

SWOON.

You know when you hear a song that’s so good you kinda lose your breath and it feels like your chest is starting to cave in?

Introducing: AWOLNATION

It’s one of those hybrid music things where by the name alone you think it’s a band but it’s really a dude doing a solo thing behind the disguise of a band name. But the sound is so complete you’re thinking “there’s no way one dude did this,” except, yes, he did, and his name is Aaron Bruno (formerly of Under the Influence of Giants fame).

AWOLNATION played Lobsterfest last year (which I worked on) and I remember being bummed I couldn’t check out the show - but now that the full album is out it’s pretty clear this uh, band? project? act? whatever - is destined for big things.

Even this official video for “Sail” looks pretty big time…

My Morning Jacket is currently getting me through my usual Saturday half-day of work. Today’s gift was finding this entire live show they did with Erykah Badu (um, what?!). Check out this live version of “The Day is Coming.”

So sad I missed this week’s show at the Pantages ($60 tickets are not in the budget, unfortunately), but this is a nice consolation prize.

Electric Wire Hustle - “They Don’t Want”

These guys are outta New Zealand, and are kinda like if Lenny Kravitz was good. But better than that, too.

Blur - Beetlebum (via emimusic)

I’d like to call this my attempt at keeping sane. Blur is a great therapist.

Foster The People - Pumped Up Kicks

Foster The People - Helena Beat

Wait, THESE guys have the biggest indie single out of L.A. right now? Where’s the facial hair and knit caps and vintage clothes? It’s like a revolution. And the best part is, ALL of their songs are amazing. Think MGMT with a little less psych and a little more dreamy pop.

“Pumped Up Kicks” is like a poppy version of “Home” a-la-Edward-Sharpe, but “Helena Beat” is a definite indie dance hit in the making.

I missed their entire January residency at The Echo, but they’ll be back for Coachella after a mini Aussie tour. Let’s hope we don’t have to risk heat stroke and certain death by them getting stuck with a noon spot.

Still… can anyone explain the pretty boys with amazing tunes phenomenon going on here? Not that I’m complaining…

For some reason, I’ve been on this huge Kid ‘n Play throwback kick lately.

But, seriously. Tell me this song doesn’t STILL sound good in 2011.

Now if only poofy hats and pool-ball pajamas could make a comeback…

It never fails that any dance-rock band I like (which is pretty much all of them, really) will end up being from Brooklyn. There’s something about the LA scene that just can’t get the bootie shake going.

Enter: Holy Ghost!, signed to DFA (of James Murphy/LCD Soundsystem fame). Right now their only release is a 5-song EP named Static on the Wire, with a full LP coming “Spring 2011” according to their website.

Here’s the video for their first single, I Will Come Back - edited down about a full minute from what you’ll hear on the album. But hey, you get visuals that make you feel like you somehow went back into time before you were actually born in the first place, so that’s a plus.

They’ve played tons of shows already, but I have a feeling once this LP drops, they will be a mainstay for the festival circuit this summer.

The Black Keys

Dear Black Keys,

You tried to sneak this alternate version of Chop and Change past me, but I’m too quick for you.

Okay, well I’m not that quick because this was originally released like, summer 2010.

So, maybe not quick, just sneaky.

See you in Vegas!

p.s. - Dan still looks totally weird without the beard.

p.p.s. - But kinda hot.

p.p.p.s - mmm…burgers…

Chromeo - “Hot Mess” (Duck Sauce Remix) by greenlabelsound

Who doesn’t like Duck Sauce, right? (I dunno, probably a few people here and there). #foodpun
